Marcela Lonngi is the editor of the PAAO Young Ophthalmologists information segment (PAAO-YO Info), a collaboration with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) where Pan-American Ophthalmologists have the opportunity to publish articles of interest related to the activities that are taking place in each of our countries.
The first edition of PAAO-YO Info will be published this August 2020, where Dr. Lonngi interviews 3 young ophthalmologists from PAAO about their perspective on COVID-19. Each one comes from a different country: Luis Leon, MD, supra-specialist in Anterior Segment at MOAT Ophthalmology Clinic in Castellon, Spain; Luis J. Haddock, MD, Retina and Vitreous Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Florida, USA; and Valentina Franco Cardenas, MD, Retina and Vitreous Surgeon in Mexico City.
Dr. Marcela Lonngi is a supra-specialist in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus trained at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). She serves as Pioneer Leader of the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at La Misericordia Pediatric Hospital Foundation in Bogota, Colombia. At the time of her Fellowship she was awarded the 2017 Gillingham Fellowship by the Pan-American Ophthalmological Foundation (PAOF) and the Retina Research Foundation. She is the delegate for Colombia to PAAO-YO.
Training overseas will be the most enriching experience in your career. However, not all the things you will have learned will necessarily translate to your real-life practice back home.
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the lives of ophthalmology residents all over Mexico.
